Suicide bomber kills 12, injures 58 in Russia's Ingushetia

MOSCOW, Aug 17 (PRIME-TASS) -- A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device in the city of Nazran in Russia's constituent republic of Ingushetia on Monday, killing 12 people, a spokesperson for the Investigation Committee's branch in Ingushetia told ITAR-TASS.

The spokesperson said 58 people, including nine children, had been injured.

The bomber drove a truck through the courtyard of a police station during a roll call, the spokesperson said.

The bomb had the explosive power of 30 kilograms of TNT, according to the spokesperson.

The situation in Ingushetia has become increasingly unstable in recent years as a conflict between authorities and local insurgents has intensified. Many relatives of Murat Zyazikov, the former president of Ingushetia, were kidnapped or killed. Zyazikov was dismissed from the position of president last year when he was seen by many observers as unable to handle the situation in the republic.

Ingushetia's current president, Yunus-bek Yevkurov, was wounded in a car-bomb attack in June amid a series of high-profile assassinations and attempted murders in Ingushetia.
