Khloponin appointed deputy PM, envoy to new federal district

MOSCOW, Jan 19 (PRIME-TASS) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has appointed Krasnoyarsk Region Governor Alexander Khloponin deputy prime minister and presidential envoy to the newly created North Caucasus Federal District, ITAR-TASS reported Tuesday.

The North Caucasus Federal District will include a number of regions that were earlier part of the Southern Federal District, Medvedev said at a meeting with Khloponin. These regions are the constituent republics of Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachayevo-Cherkessia, North Ossetia-Alania, Chechnya, and the Stavropol Region. The city of Pyatigorsk will be the administrative center of the new federal district.

Khloponin has been dismissed as Krasnoyarsk Region governor.
