Russia's Putin says 3 minor issues remain in WTO talks
MOSCOW, Mar 19 (PRIME-TASS) -- Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Friday said only three insignificant issues remained in talks on Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), as cited by ITAR-TASS.
"We've been holding talks for 17 years already," he said at a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. "Only three issues remain and we're still running through that triangle. (These issues) present no significant problems either for the U.S. or our economy."
He did not specify the issues.
Meanwhile, Clinton said the U.S. was committed to the cause of Russia's WTO accession.
Putin also said he was concerned with U.S. sanctions imposed on some Russian companies and with the U.S.’ failure to repeal the Jackson–Vanick amendment.
The Jackson-Vanick amendment was passed in 1974 and restricted U.S. trade with countries that limited emigration rights, including the Soviet Union. The amendment is still in force in regard to Russia.
Putin urged the U.S. to give support to Russian companies investing in the country.
"There must be a clear signal that they are welcome in the U.S. economy," he said.
