Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan to seek WTO accession as one
MOSCOW, Jun 9 (Prime-Tass) -- Russia will stop individual talks on its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and will start talks on accession as a single customs union with Belarus and Kazakhstan, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Tuesday at a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Community’s (EurAsEC) intergovernmental council.
Putin cited a joint statement of the three countries.
He said that the three countries would inform the WTO about their intention to start a negotiating process for membership as a single customs union.
Russia has been negotiating on its WTO accession since 1993, but its talks have been delayed by various issues, including its war with Georgia in August 2008.
