MOSCOW, Aug 21 (PRIME-TASS) -- The number of people killed in the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant in Russia’s constituent republic of Khakasia has increased to 47, rescue workers told ITAR-TASS Friday.

The bodies of 19 people have been found as well as several body fragments. The fate of 28 workers is unknown.

The oil spill that appeared on the Yenisey River after the accident has been cleaned up, the Emergency Situations Ministry’s Chief Military Expert Pavel Plat told television news channel Vesti on Friday.

The accident at the hydropower plant’s second unit happened early Monday. The second unit was destroyed, the machine room was severely damaged, and the power plant shut down.

Clean-up teams are continuing to remove water for the flooded machine room.

President Dmitry Medvedev discussed with the members of the Security Council on Friday the situation at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydropower plant and reminded them that it was necessary to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all hydro facilities in connection with the accident.
